“MASS Celebrated the Arrival of Spring at the April 4th Social”

The Elks Ballroom was adorned with colorful flowers and Easter decorations by Host Team members Brenda & Lew Sorresse, Jane & Charles Lafferty, Saundra Lee and Ann Herndon. Even though there were many other events in play for the weekend, 85 members (long time and new ones) turned out for a fun night of dancing to the excellent selection of tunes played by DJ Roy Childress.

The attendees included 51 Full Members, 1 Returning Full Member, 18 Associate Members and 17 New Associate Members. There were several new folks from South Carolina nearby towns including Cheraw, Bennettsville, Chesterfield and Lexington. We enjoyed meeting these new members and hope they return again soon. With the addition of all the new members, our club now has 146 Full Members and 97 Associate Members.

Remember, next month’s May 2 Social theme is “The Kentucky Derby,” complete with another “Hat Contest.” So ladies, you have a month to design the winning hat! At 7:00 we will re-vote for applying for Non-profit status choosing 501(c)7 format which more accurately describes the function of our organization than the 501(c)3 that was voted on earlier.

On Tuesday, April 14 a Fundraiser Team will meet at the Elks Club at 4:00 to begin planning for the September Fundraiser. If you want to be a part of this team, please come to this meeting.

Regretfully, Social 165 closed its doors last week. Those of us who went there to dance on Wednesday night will miss it. But, I am sure that another venue will provide mid-week dancing soon!

“THOSE IRISH EYES WERE SMILING ON MARCH 7”

Thanks to the 116 members who attended the St. Patrick’s Day Social on March 7!!! It was another fun-filled evening that you missed if you could not be there. We now have 146 Full Members and 81 Associate Members. Many of you were very pleased with DJ Ron Russ. I shared this with Robbie Farrell and he may get him back for our November or December Social if he is available.

We tried a couple of new things: Pitchers of water were available near the food table so you did not have to go the bar. Also, we had two bartenders which kept the line short. Based on last year’s attendance data, we will hire the extra person for those months with higher attendance.

The mooreareashagsociety.com website is up and running! Check it out!!!! Minor tweeking continues, but the basic format is there. I have worked closely with designer Dan Ring from Pinebluff to make it comprehensive and concise. Hope that you enjoy it! You can leave comments in the “Latest News” section.

Finally, as the Board began its work on the 501(c)3 Nonprofit Status, we discovered that 501(c)7 Status more accurately reflects the intent of our type of organization. The cost is the same. Therefore, in order to comply with our By-Laws and since the membership voted in February for 501(c)3, we will re-vote at the May 2 Social specifying 501(c)7 status. (Can’t do it in April because a 30 notice is required.)

“OH, WHAT A NIGHT!”

Great Crowd! Great Music! Great Food! Great Theme! Great Meeting!

There were 123 in attendance. Some of our charter members and past presidents who had not been to a Social in quite a while joined us. Welcome back!

Currently, we have 139 Full Members and 57 Associate Members. I can’t remember when the food was so diverse and tasty. Thanks to those members who brought ample portions and some for even bringing more than one dish.

Also, a few folks who saw our event posted on The Pines Times.com stopped by later in the evening to inquire about our club. They will join us for the next social on March 7. Our theme for that event is “Saint Patrick’s Day,” so wear your green or you might get pinched. Until then, keep shagging!!!
